When sociologists visit…

My tickets were waiting for the standing room only Distinguished Speaker Series session with Dr. Jack Levin – renowned serial killer specialist. I didn’t believe when I was told all tickets had been distributed more than a week ago – I was wrong.

It was a pretty interesting presentation but my friend and I got there just a tad bit late. We ended up in the nosebleed section but check out how packed it was! I imagine it is going to be the same for Dr. Michael Shermer coming up in early November. So if you are interested in checking out the author of the Believing Brain, you better request your tickets early. I had written about both speakers in an earlier post.

Anyway, today has been an exceedingly busy day with a check presentation from commissioners court, a board meeting and setting up for the domestic violence conference tomorrow. I am looking forward to listening to Jerry Tello, whom I had also written about in a past post. Hope you are getting a chance to listen to the various speakers that are visiting Laredo!

That sounds so interesting! I’m also interested in learning more about the upcoming speaker- I’ll look it up, but I presume it is about religion? Will have to do some research on it- Thank- and that room is PACKED!

I’m reading his book right now – it isn’t about religion but it is thrown into the mix since it can be one of the “weird things” humans can believe. It’s more about the reasons why our brains work the way they do.
