Annual Dia del Rio – cleanup at Paso del Indio

Dia del Rio is coming up. I’m sure you knew that, right? The annual event is going to start on Friday, September 30 at 11:30pm at the Paso del Indio Nature Trail. Check out the invitation:

Dia Del Rio is a celebration that has united the two Laredos for 17 years. This year’s event promises to be rich in cultural and scientific activities, with hundreds of students from both countries involved in projects that we are sponsoring.

We would like to invite you to the Dia Del Rio 2011 Proclamation and Interfaith Service Kick-off event on Friday, September 30. It will include an official proclamation and meditations from the Catholic, Protestant, Buddhist, Islamic and Native American faiths.

We will begin the festivities at 11.30am sharp and conclude with a lunch catered by the Laredo Jobs Corps Culinary Arts Program. See you there!

For further information please call Gail (DDR Coordinator) at 956-721-5392

Dia del Rio is on Saturday, October 1. For a clean-up of that size, they depend on a lot of volunteers and tools. I received a media advisory. Loops like the RGISC folks were able to give $4000 worth of tools, not bad. This was part of the release:

This year’s Dia del Rio clean-up event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers will receive a free T-shirt and other giveaways. Lunch will be provided by Laredo Councilwoman Cindy Liendo Espinoza. This is a terrific opportunity for high school students to receive community service hours.

Through the generosity of the D.D. Hachar Charitable Trust, RGISC is pleased to provide a gift of more than $4,000 in tools and equipment to LCC’s LBVESC for this year’s clean-up effort. These tools will replace aging tools needed for Dia del Rio and future trail clean-ups scheduled throughout the year.

What I thought was really useful was the calendar in the just published LareDOS newspaper – very comprehensive. Hope you can read it but for a clearer copy, pick up a newspaper or check on their website.

I will be attempting to make the events but I also have a little date with some Zombies on Saturday. I’ll let you know about them in a future post.
