Little did you know that opportunities for artists come in the most unexpected times. Open Art (holds art classes) had some of its students artwork on exhibit at the library and many other places. Shelby was one of her students. Along comes a stranger who falls in love with her piece and actually commissions Shelby to create another in a different size.
Her mom, Claudine, sent the following quote:
Shelby would like to thank everyone for their support. She is especially grateful to Open Art, Victoria Ortega and Ruben Ortega. As per Shelby:
I am very thankful to Ms. Vasquez-Jimenez for liking and wanting art that I created. I am also very thankful to Mrs. Ortega for teaching me and for letting me try new things. She also helped me rediscover old things and see them in a whole new light. I haven’t had so much fun in such a long time. It’s been a year since art class in school so I’ve been very happy going to Open Art this summer!! (double thumbs up with a smile :-D)
My husband (Fernando R. Alfaro) and I would also like to thank everyone as Shelby mentioned. Muchas Gracias!! ~~claudine
Teacher, artist, family and buyer were hosted at a private meeting arranged by Scholars Caffe, a local cafe that has opened its doors to many artists.
What a way to encourage art in today’s youth. The next time you see budding talent, you don’t necessarily have to commission an art piece but a simple compliment or encouraging comment will do wonders.
Teen artist: Shelby Alfaro. Mom: Claudine Alfaro. buyer: Gladys Vasquez-Jimenez. Artwork: single sheet paper cutout tree silhouette. 24″ x 36″.
