Art day with el Señor de la Caguama

For some time, a group of artsy friends/acquaintances have been saying we are going to form a small arts co-op to share some costs. Hasn’t happened yet.

We did schedule art day at St. Peter’s plaza that will hopefully turn into a monthly gathering of creative types. For this month, it was just two of us but we had a ton of fun.

El Señor de las Caguamas
approached us when we were sitting at a plaza bench sketching to our hearts content. Why “el Señor de las Caguamas”?? Because he wanted to know what time it was because he wasn’t sold beer at a “bodeguita” (“little warehouse” that apparently has sold beer before noon) and was walking to see if they could sell him a caguama at a local gas station – early morning pistear prevented by beer selling rules!

We asked if he minded if we videotaped and took a picture (note, in Spanish and volume a bit low):

“Why?” you ask we asked if he minded? You are full of questions, aren’t you. Because we were looking for subjects to sketch. He asked too and when we told him, his response was, “Me quiere sin ropa o con ropa?” (He asked if we wanted him with clothes or without). Hahaha :).

Had we had the whole figure drawing group… we might have bought him his caguamas in exchange for posing! Anyway, a couple of the works in progress…

Messing around on "art day" at St. Peter's Plaza in Laredo, Texas

Wish us luck at our next art day!
