First we can start our Saturday midday with a quick trip down the Rio Grande in the community kayak races. It’s family-oriented, it’s cheap, it’s fun, it’s exercise, it’s competition, it’s entertaining and it is using the natural resources we ALREADY have!
During the day (& on to the 3rd), you can check out the 4th of July Family Fest at the Civic Center for a buck.
For you still family-friendly but a bit more testosterone driven activities, you can go where I am going – to catch the Laredo Wrestling Alliance’s Independence Day wrestling match in Zapata, Texas to benefit the Marine Corps League and its scholarship efforts.
The 1,000 seat event hall will also be seeing the first ever QF banner. Whoop, whoop! It’ll serve as a reminder that this thorn in their side will be watching, kidding, kidding, I will be there supporting the fundraiser. The men and women have been preparing for this event for some time – they are going to give it their all and gladly, they still keep their policy of equity between the sexes (although men still outnumber women but they are all trained to wrestle).
And the following day, we all wake up early to go to the Joey Muñoz “4th of July” Memorial 5K Run/Walk at Laredo Community College. YAY!!
