Make up your minds – dangerous or safe?

The Tribune Weekly Chronicle out of Imperial Valley, California has Laredo as one of The 8 Most Dangerous Border Towns in America. This is their Laredo entry:

Laredo: Laredo is a South Texas city located on the north bank of the Rio Grande that borders Nuevo Laredo in Tamaulipas, Mexico. For many years, Laredo has been the target of cartel violence and drug trafficking for Mexican gangs, and has added ransom kidnappings, a high speed chase and a record-breaking weapons bust to the list of criminal activities happening there. In 2010, the U.S. Consulate in Nuevo Laredo was damaged from an explosive that was thrown over the wall by Mexican gang members.

Didn’t we just go through this again?

Does that sound dangerous to you?? Ok, it does, except everything they described is taking place on the Mexican side and not the US. I guess that is mix-ups they get by reposting something from “Criminal Justice Degrees Guide.”

Maybe they should have watched the Mileka Lincoln video on one of my previous posts. She talks with Laredo Police Department about some of the statistics pointing to Laredo being a much safer city than people assume. But there is crime, no doubt, but… one of the most dangerous cities?? ¡No’mbre!

Sounds to me like someone at Holtville Tribune has their antennas crossed. Are they trying to build themselves up by tearing others down? That’s a dangerous game, especially if they don’t have their facts straight. Where do we report them?

    Seriously?

    Someone needs serious fact checker:

    http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,2007474,00.html

Border cities have some of the lowest crime rates in the COUNTRY. Including Laredo.

For a city of its size, it has an enviable crime rate.

Anybody can look up FBI crime statistics.

It seems like that should have been what the author did before citing “facts” that were not true. Shame on her.

  4. Gwen Garza says:

This should say border cities IN MEXICO! Not in the US. Some of the most dangerous cities in the US are in the middle of the US and can not be blamed on Mexico.

  5. Sara says:

Well on another note, Laredo just received the Gold recognition level for being a Heart and Stroke Healthy City! Only 4 other cities received this recognition.
Presentation of plaque made to the mayor this morning!

So that is where i read the article that caused me to tell TexDot to place tape over the words nuevo laredo on the highway marker, never mind, they already removed it . . .
