Light it up BLUE at El Portal

We’ve all heard the statistics of increasing numbers of children in the Autism Spectrum. The Families for Autism Support and Awareness are kicking off an event at 7pm at El Portal. Who said El Portal was a total waste? Oh wait, we Laredo residents did – but for April 2nd, it will be very well used!

This was the group’s message on the Facebook event page:

FFASAA will light up part of El Portal as an opening ceremony to Autism Awareness Month. In honor of individuals with Autism please wear something blue. Families wanting their family member with autism to be named and honored please email me at to place their name on the list.

Reader Victoria Ortega also lets us know:

for Autism Awareness month we are displaying their art work at the main library, if anyone wants to showcase their children’s work you can drop it off with Irma from the children’s dept.

The events don’t eliminate autism but they do bring awareness at the increase in number of children and the need for early diagnosis. It costs you nothing to support, unless you are interested in donating for increased research in the area. For that, you can donate to Autism Speaks.

One Response to Light it up BLUE at El Portal

  1. Families for Autism Support and Awareness really appreciates any type of awareness that is given to Autism. The more the community is aware of Autism and how to deal with these very unique individuals, the better our children’s quality of life will be. Let’s embrace all individuals and make Laredo a better place to live.
