82nd Texas Legislature begins

And… they are off. The Texas legislative session has begun (today at noon). A friend also posted that the WBCA’s Mr. South Texas 2011 will be Speaker of the Texas House, Joe Straus. Apparently it was old news that I hadn’t paid attention to as the WBCA website states:

LAREDO, TX (July 21, 2010) — The Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association (WBCA) has announced that the Honorable Joe Straus, Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, has been selected as Mr. South Texas 2011 for the 114th Washington’s Birthday Celebration. The formal announcement was made during a press conference held this morning at the BBVA Compass Plaza Tower in downtown Laredo, hosted by BBVA Compass.

The Mr. South Texas designation is presented to a deserving individual worthy of the award who has made a significant and lasting contribution to the growth and development of Laredo and the South Texas region.

There are different ways you can follow what is taking place in our state government. Check one or two out.

KVUE reports right before it opens and the first business is to elect a speaker of the House which is expected to be the Joe Straus once again. With the budget reduction that needs to be made, we will crossing our fingers to see where those cuts will come from.
