Taquitos de espaguetis

What is it with the Spaghetti Taco craze?? I read a story about them in the New York Times and since then have heard of several friends promising to make them. No local pictures yet, though.

Apparently it was an iCarly show (on Nickelodeon) gag that has now found true fans of spaghetti tacos. The N.Y. Times story says:

That punch line has now become part of American children’s cuisine, fostering a legion of imitators and improvisers across the country. Spurred on by reruns, Internet traffic, slumber parties and simple old-fashioned word of mouth among children, spaghetti tacos are all the rage. Especially if you’re less than 5 feet tall and live with your mother.

Mom blogs and cooking Web sites are filled with recipes from dozens of desperate parents who have been confronted with how to feed their offspring the popular gag. A Facebook page has sprung up with more than 1,200 fans.

My only guess is that the ease of eating spaghetti is what is so attractive because I can’t imagine a crunchy corn tortilla and pasta make the best of combination. Who knows? If you make them, send a photo. If you puke, please don’t send a photo.

Having a ten-year-old in the house, we know a thing or two about iCarly. We will be dining on spaghetti tacos tonight.

I grew up eating sphaghetti between two slices of white bread. Delicious! But taco shells? Blech!

    Con salsa verde….provecho!

Follow that up by having deep-fried butter for dessert.

Carbs on carbs? At least hide some veggies in that spaghetti and a little protein wouldn’t hurt. Mamma mia, “what’s the matter with kids today?” — to quote Paul Lynde in “Bye Bye Birdie”. 🙂
