La Barbie & la Fregada

What!?? La Barbie was caught in Morelos and here I am on a comfy sofa near Kansas City totally oblivious?? (FYI – visiting Melinda, former Americorps Service Member in Laredo assigned to Habitat for Humanity. Something to consider for those of you looking for a year-long volunteer commitment serving somewhere in the US. It’s the domestic Peace Corps)

“Laredo Police Department spokesman Jose E. Baeza confirmed Villarreal was wanted in the U.S. on drug charges and said his capture wouldn’t necessarily quell the violence in Nuevo Laredo, which had increased in the past months.”

The Texas Tribune had the story titled
“Alleged “Capo” Edgar Valdez Villarreal Caught” by Julian Aguilar (formerly a Laredo Morning Times reporter).

In the story they quote Joey Baeza:

“Many people are eager to put a head on the monster, but my take on it is that there are three or four more heads that will grow in its place,” Baeza said. “It’s too easy to say it [the violence] will subside. It doesn’t just go away.”

Yikes – but he may have a point because that is the pattern we keep seeing over & over.

So if a former blondish pretty boy football player from United High School in Laredo, Texas can be a capo… I guess I could be confused for a drug runner – but, I am not!
