6th murder in Laredo?

NBC Pro8News, you are killing me – not literally, just killing my sense of safety. I just watched the news and I can’t believe murder #5 & #6 happened one day after the next. The video is not yet available but I will post it later today.

Nuevo Laredo had been relatively calm until the last few months. The first time the grenades exploded and they shook my house in the U.S. side, I had the feeling things would be escalating again. Nuevo Laredo’s battles this weekend even made the Borderland Beat blog which had been focusing in other parts of Mexico. The blog has a pretty good description of the structure and who is in power and where amongst the cartels. Let’s hope Nuevo Laredo and definitely Laredo don’t make the news again.

With that said, Mr. Gil Rocha submitted the following sign on Matamoros Street in Laredo:

Roughly translated it states “Let the river flood with water but don’t let BLOOD tint the streets” – let hope for neither, especially no more blood in the streets of Laredo.

There are violent crimes on this side too I guarantee it’s spillover but local officials are mum about it.

This is only the 6th murder – nothing compared to the murders in Nuevo Laredo. Still though… you are right, there are violent crimes on this side too. Stay safe, Rick, and thank you for your comment!
