Surfing the net can bring some surprises. I ran across a Kennebec, Maine online paper with a column called On the Edge by J.P. Devine.
I can understand Africa hot, Baghdad hot, even Death Valley hot but… I didn’t know Laredo was that well known in Maine. Maybe it was his Air Force bootcamp days that he learned of the legendary heat of Laredo. This is how he starts off his quote column:
It’s hot. It’s Africa hot, Baghdad, West Laredo, Texas, hot. It is, finally, summer in Maine. I love summer and the hotter the better. I am no stranger to extreme heat. I was born at the end of St. Louis, Missouri’s hottest summer on record.
To top it off, it is even WEST Laredo, Texas hot. See, my friend was right; our catch phrase should be Laredo – the HOTTEST place around!
