Dangerous deeds

Pretending to be a bullfighter with cars is not the smartest way of panhandling during the “rush hour” at the end of IH-35. Usually the people asking for money at this intersection try to wash your window or just hold a sign. I’ve seen this man before, without the luchador/wrestler mask and without the karate-chopping antics. He has always been calm but today… not sure if he was on something, had a death wish or the luchador/wrestler mask gave him a burst of bravery.

I was going to call the police although I am not sure if the law enforcement/mental health issue transportation conflict was ever resolved. Has it been? When I used to work at a homeless shelter (not here), we had a great working relationship with local police when someone started to think that killing me with a fork might be a good idea. They would respond immediately to escort the person to the hospital and I would just fill out the documents to commit them.

A policeman was not far away so hopefully he was told to stay on the side of the road – or – maybe to follow the law and not panhandle.

It is mandated that all Texas peace officers take mental health intervention crisis course that includes Laredo PD too .
Unknown what protocol LPD has on a mental crises but they are much more concerned with the maquinitas and ladies of the night .
