French visitors land in Laredo

Woohooo… I am a little excited to get a chance to meet a team of professionals from France through the Rotary International Group Study Exchange.

They were welcomed to Laredo by Rotary Club members from the 5 area clubs at a shindig at the Falcon Bank’s Lake House.

I got my hands on the bulletin for the Rotary Club of Laredo Under Seven Flags meeting on Tuesday. It is nothing fancy but it lets you know who the visitors are.

My role will be as a mini-tour guide. They will get a chance to see some of the wind turbine experiments, a brick making demonstration, a tour of TAMIU and LCC, a fire department visit, and a chance to check out the firing range. I am sure they will do other things.

After their visit to the U.S., we in South Texas will also be sending a team of five to France to serve as our “ambassadors.” Hopefully both teams will return with plenty of stories and have learned about each others’ cultures.

If you have questions or want a chance to meet them, email

I would respectfully suggest a tour through Laredo’s beer runs during peak hours. I will cheerfully volunteer for this task if need be.
