As you may sleep in this morning, a group of women are gathering and getting hard hats ready for a long day of working on the Habitat for Humanity construction site.
Habitat’s Tierra Prometida subdivision (a colonia alternative) will get a big boost from these volunteers in order to reach the goal of building 50 homes for low-income, hard-working families.
I have a commitment out of Laredo so I won’t be able to join my fellow women volunteers in swinging a hammer and using a nailgun. I did make it a point to stop by the training held this past Thursday at Lowe’s. The women volunteers received instruction on safety and how to use some of the power tools. The photo above was only a small glimpse of the variety of women that attended.
Today may be “Women’s Build Day” for Habitat affiliates across the world but the reality is that the MAJORITY of the volunteers that go on a regular basis are women.
The best of luck to everyone going out in this heat to help make this a better Laredo!
