May Day & Free Comic Book Day

Originally I was going to help my friend celebrate Free Comic Book Day (unfortunately, he lives up North so … no free comic books in Laredo that I know of, but you might want to check). He owns The Zone Comics in Homewood, Illinois and will not only be giving out free comic books, he will also have a party to celebrate the national give away day. Wooohoooo – oh wait, I am not there & I don’t know much about comic books. Regardless…

What is Free Comic Book Day?

Free Comic Book Day is a single day – the first Saturday in May each year – when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely FREE* to anyone who comes into their stores. *Check with your local shop for their participation and rules.

Something bigger is brewing across the nation, though. May Day rallies are going to be popping up all over (even British news is covering the protests in 70 cities) in response to immigration issues and the recent Arizona immigration bill that was passed.

In honor of a Facebook movement group called “Do I look ‘illegal’?” and National Free Comic Book Day, I present the questionably legal/undocumented Marvel Comic Superheroes:

Legacy Comics, next to the skate park on McPherson, is going to have a free comic book event. I heard the commercial on the radio (94.9 FM). Kids are being encouraged to dress up as their favorite hero.
