Autism Awareness

Many of you may have heard or participated in the walk at TAMIU to raise awareness about autism and raise some funds. Pro8News covered it on April 12, 2010:
Vodpod videos no longer available.

The National Student Speech Language & Hearing Association helped put the event on and proceeds are to help the upcoming Autism Conference for this Saturday, April 24, 2010.

My fellow comadre (through the Las Comadres de las Americas Network) sent a thought provoking video on autism that I wanted to share. She is a Special Education Advocate and has made presentations in Laredo and we still keep in contact. Check out her Latina Mami page or her personal page. She is open to questions, especially about advocacy for students with special needs within the school system.

Hopefully someone will get a chance to support the Autism Conference this weekend and if I could, I would give you more info but I can’t find anything but mentions of it online. Usually I get flyers sent through the social service networks but, not in this case. It doesn’t mean if we have the interest that we shouldn’t be proactive about going to find the information on registration.
