State Board of Ed. gets a response from Rep. Raymond through Jefferson Movement

Way to go, Representative Richard Raymond! His blog post titled “Defend Our Children Against Radical Interest Groups” was added this morning on the The Thomas Jefferson Movement page, a movement with similar interests to the Coffee Party Movement. Check out his post below or at its original site.

We have a real battle on our hands in dealing with the ideologues on the State Board of Education in Texas. Everything you can do to help build the Thomas Jefferson movement is important.

While we have no way to know whether it will actually occur, it is fair for us to anticipate interference in our Texas elections from the national organizations that support the moves of the radical elements on the SBOE.

Well funded, right wing groups could very well decide to spend large amounts of money trying to influence what happens here in Texas in order to promote their radical agenda. While we may not be able to match them dollar for dollar, we can certainly work harder than them. And we can carry our message across the internet and on the streets to the vast majority of people who vehemently disagree with their backward views.

So let’s keep working together to protect our children from the fringe groups who think that McCarthyism was acceptable. Let’s stop the zealots who would try to ignore the great progress we’ve made in civil rights in this country by removing many of our heroes from school curriculum. Let’s make it clear that we’re not going to stand for anything that politicizes the textbooks our students in Texas and around the country learn from.

If you’ve contributed content in the form of blog posts, comments, reached out to your social networks and email contacts to find others to join our cause, I offer an extra thank you. I especially thank you if you’ve contributed financially to the Thomas Jefferson Movement.

Together, we can still move our educational system in Texas and the nation forward. Thank you for being a part of this great cause. Please continue to invite your friends, family and social networks to join the Thomas Jefferson Movement by utilizing the invite tools on our community site.

Please let us know how we can better carry our message and accomplish our goals together. Make the Thomas Jefferson Movement YOUR community in every way.

Thank you,

Richard Peña Raymond
Texas State Representative
